MONMOUTH'S Nelson Garden received a visit from several naval groups last Friday (27th June). The amalgamation of the groups, under the name Tars, stopped at the secluded gardens as part of its recreational tour of Lord Nelson's journey in 1802. Tars started their tour in Milford Haven and finished their trip in Chepstow. Nelson's journey took six weeks but thanks to four wheels, the group completed it in three days. A special thank you was offered by the group to Penny and Graham Thomas for showing them around the garden where Nelson would have stopped on his tour. The visit by Tars wasn't the only event held at the garden this week. Last Sunday (29th June) saw a concert from the Monmouth Male Voice Choir who entertained its audience in the beautiful surroundings. Penny Thomas, head of the U3A gardeners, said: "It's such a beautiful garden and we'd like to encourage more people to come and visit. "It's a great place to take your lunch and sit and admire the view." On Wednesday 16th July at 7pm the Savoy Youth Theatre academy will be performing Alice in Wonderland at the gardens.
