A MONMOUTH resident has spoken out about cars parking on pavements in town.
A number of Monmouth residents have reported a substance number of cases related to idling cars as well as parking on pavements or double yellow lines.
One Monmouth resident, who did not wish to be named as avoid harassment, told the Beacon that they spotted an idling Ford Ranger outside of the King’s Head.
They said: "We need to make idling and pavement parking as anti-social as indoor smoking. I did ask him politely to turn his engine off. He said no and carried on playing on his phone."
Idling is running a vehicle when it’s not needed and two minutes of idling can emit the same about of emissions as a mile of driving. It can also be harmful to the wellbeing of your vehicle.
This is far from unusual. Monmouth town councillor Jaime Treharne raised the issue of cars parking on double yellow lines in a council meeting last August.
He told Monmouth Town Council (July 26) as well as Police Sergeant Atkinsonâ??who was also in attendanceâ??that there can often be cars parked there all day, on the double yellow lines.
