Local MS, Peter Fox, recently attended the site of the rock fall north of Monmouth on the A40 to see the ongoing works.

Hosted by National Highways and Morgan Sindall, Peter was given a full briefing on the design phase to find a solution, the ongoing traffic management and was able to ask questions to the community engagement team on behalf of his constituents.

The works on the site are due to begin in Spring, with the aim still being to complete all construction and re-open the carriageway in the Summer.

Peter Fox, Member of the Senedd for Monmouth, and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport & Rural Affairs, has said: “Thank you to National Highways and Morgan Sindall for hosting me in Monmouth recently and for giving their time to answer some crucial questions.”

“It is no secret that this incident caused significant initial congestion and issues for residents, but things have certainly improved since, and we are all desperate to see it put right. I am grateful for the opportunity to see the site firsthand, and to relay my residents’ concerns onto stakeholders.”

“With work due to begin in the coming weeks, and the aim of completion in the Summer, I am hopeful we will soon see the road re-opened, and this frustrating chapter for local residents coming to an end.”

“I am very grateful to National Highways and their colleagues for their regular engagement with my office, and today for showing me the situation in person.”

Joseph Walmsley, Route Manager at National Highways, said: “We were happy to welcome Peter onto the A40 site to provide some first-hand insight into the preparations that are taking place to develop a solution for this area which will protect the site for decades to come.”

“A team of renowned industry experts are designing that solution, and we are confident that work will get under way soon which will keep the site safe and enable us to fully reopen the road.”

“We are grateful to people for their patience while these important investigations have been taking place as it is essential we are thorough now to ensure a long-term solution is put in place.”
