A three-car pile-up on the A40 saw a man hospitalised Sunday, ( February 16).

The crash closed part of the A40 as emergency services were called to the scene at around 3pm on the Ross bound A40 inside the diversion.

Police and paramedics were at the scene and the man was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The A40 quickly became a giant car park as emergency services worked to clear the scene. At one stage both carriageways were closed at Whitchurch and the Dixton roundabout.

Traffic began to move about two hours after the incident at around 5.30pm

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A40, Monmouth, at around 3.10pm on Sunday 16 February.

"Officers attended, alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service and a man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The collision involved three cars."
