Sunday's Red Kite Stages saw local crews come away with excellent results.

Six very icy stages were on offer in Crychan, Cefn and Caeo Forests, although the second run of Caeo was cancelled when a culvert collasped.

Ben Williams, together with the experienced Russell Joseph (Ross), took an excellent seventh overall, second in class in the Lancer Evo 6 despite being seeded at 34.

They found the morning loop very icy, a big moment in the afternoon was their only drama and got their Welsh Clubman series off to a good start.

Colin Webb (Whitecroft) teamed up with Matt Rogers (Ross) for the first time.

This was Matt's first event on pacenotes but the Forest of Dean Tyres-backed BMW 325 never missed a beat on the way to 15th overall, first in class.

"Well, I'm pleased the car went well, Matt did a excellent job on the notes," said Colin.

"The first two stages were lethal with ice, I had a push this afternoon and had a few moments, but overall a good day."

The Red Kite Historic Stages saw Simon Tysoe and Cliff Simmons (Coleford) using the event as a shakedown for the forthcoming Wyedean and they had a mixed day.

A consistent misfire and broken starter motor hampered their progress as well as the ice, but a fastest time on Stage 3 helped the Tysoe Installations Escort RS1800 net fourth overall, third in class at the end.

Ross duo Ian Archer and Tom Aubrey travelled south for the K&R Mitsubishi Brean Stages. The two-day event offered 12 all-tarmac stages.

Day one saw the BG Landrovers-backed Escort RS have a trouble-free day to finish 36th, 14th in class.

Day two started well, seeing Archer climb into the top 30, but three stages from the end the rear diff went and they limped home 38th/ 13th in class.

The event was won by Peter Lloyd and Graham Handley (Monmouth) in their Subaru S12 WRC.

Ian Archer and Tom Aubrey won the award for the best prepared car, built by Paul Gunter at BG Landrovers.
