Local councillors for Mitchel Troy and Trellech United, Richard John and Jayne McKenna have thanked EuroGarages staff, Monmouthshire County Council officers and inmates on day release from Prescoed Prison for joining them on a litterpick outside the EuroGarages services between Raglan and Monmouth.
The litterpick was carried out on the main road between Raglan and Monmouth, which is a notorious blackspot for litter, including takeaway packaging from fast food outlets based at the services like Greggs, Subway and Burger King. Fifteenull orange bags of litter were collected.
The councillors have been critical of EuroGarages in the past for failing to take their responsibilities seriously in tackling the litter problem, to which they feel the service station contributes.
Cllr Richard John said, “We’ve had our disagreements with EuroGarages over the years because we felt they weren’t doing enough to deal with litter both on their sites but also on surrounding roads.
‘‘We hope this successful litterpick is the start of a more constructive relationship between the service stations and the local community.”
Cllr Jayne McKenna said, “We’re grateful to everyone who came along and took part in this litterpick, including prisoners on day release from Prescoed, who were able to give something back to the community.
‘‘We all know that litter encourages further littering so the more we can all do to crack down on this polluting anti-social behaviour, the better.”
