The Kymin Dash is a seven-mile race that goes straight up to the top of the Kymin above Monmouth, and back down on a lengthy, picturesque loop of the Wye Valley.
A challenging yet scenic race which looks forward to welcoming up to 350 runners on race day. This year entry prices have been reduced to £9 for affiliated and £11 for unaffiliated runners. Entries are currently on sale at www.fabian4.co.uk
The course starts with an ascent to the Round House, a local viewpoint at around 850ft. The opening mile or so will certainly give your lungs a workout. What goes up, must come down, so, prepare for a gentle descent through fields and the bluebell carpeted forest tracks before a long flat finish along Hadnock Road into the Monmouth School Sports Club. Albeit a hard start, this race is suitable for all runners.
This year, the race is sponsored by A-Plan Insurance, Emma’s Country Cakes, Walford Timber and Ludus Gym. Trophies will be presented for the ‘King’ and ‘Queen’ of the hill (sponsored by Ludus Gym) as well as finishing places. A well-deserved post-race treat will be provided by Emma’s Country Cakes. Walford Timber have sponsored the race numbers. Spirit of Monmouth would like to thank their sponsors and supporters for helping make this event possible and bringing the local running community together. All finishers will receive a race memento.
The race will be supporting the wonderful charity The Ted Senior Foundation who champion good mental health and working to prevent suicide.
All profits generated from the 2023 event will be donated this charity.
Keeping up with their success in being more environmentally friendly, all cups will be paper and biodegradable, and all runners will be urged to recycle any waste.
Additionally, in place of the traditional tape, we will mark the course using natural sawdust (provided by Walford Timber) (where tape is still necessary – this will be cleared soon after the race).
Spirit of Monmouth is committed to be as environmentally friendly as they can.
The event is also having a collection for Monmouth and District Food Bank who help local people in crisis.
Last year the charity distributed 608 three-day emergency food parcels.
Items currently in high demand include – long life juice, squash, powdered milk, sponge puddings and custard.
The current race records are - Male course record is 39m 50s, set by Huw Evans in 2015.
Female course record is 44m 32s, set by Emma Wookey in 2015. King of the Hill record is 9m 15s, set by Huw Evans in 2015. Queen of the Hill record is 10m 31s, set by Emma Wookey in 2015.
The Spirit of Monmouth Running Club would like to thank the residents of the The Kymin and Hadnock Road for their support/understanding and take the opportunity to remind people there is a road closure on the Kymin Road, traffic control on Staunton Road (about two miles from The Mayhill) – where runners cross the road and a speed limit reduction on Hadnock Road during the race; we thank you all for your support and co-operation.
