A Crickhowell venue is set to play host to a musical extravaganza next month, celebrating the music of a legendary British rock band.

The iconic Clarence Hall will host the junior section of Abergavenny Operatic and Dramatic Society (AAODS) for their version of We Will Rock You Young@Part.

The 70-minute adaptation of the West End Show is inspired by and featuring the songs of Queen, and includes show-stopping numbers including Somebody To Love, Radio Gaga, Killer Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody.

The story follows two young rebels as they try to restore rock and roll to the ‘iPlanet’ in a post-apocalyptic world.

AAODS are performing in Clarence Hall for the first time, with their return to the stage being a welcome and much-anticipated event. The award-winning junior section last performed a musical back in 2019, and have since seen their calendar severely disrupted by the Covid pandemic.

Chairperson Meg Trinder said: “We are really excited to finally be able to put on a live performance and the youth version of WWRY is an upbeat and energetic show really suits our juniors section. The children have been working so hard each week to learn all their singing, dancing and lines and we’ve been having a blast in rehearsals.

“It’s reminded us how theatre brings everyone together and is so important for young people to have local creative outlets.

“We’re looking forward to putting the show infront of an audience in Clarence Hall, Crickhowell who have been so accommodating to us whilst the Borough Theatre is closed for refurbishment.”

Clarence Hall will host three performances of the show, on April 28, 29 and 30, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 (concessions £8) and are available to purchase online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/Abergavenny-Amateur-Operatic-Dramatic-Society
