Goodrich launches its own knight's kit! If you ever dreamed of being a knight in shining armour, or being whisked off your feet by one, then Goodrich Castle might have just the thing – a collection of off-the-peg armour to suit any swashbuckling hero! The new gift shop at Goodrich has enabled the site to launch a full collection of replica arms and armour, which make fantastic decorative talking points – or the ultimate fancy-dress experience! "Visiting a historic castle often brings out the inner child in people, who are desperate to reclaim part of their own heritage and relive their childhood dreams of knights and damsels, so to many, the armour collection that we have here provides a perfect way of reliving their childhoods," explains English Heritage's territorial marketing manager, Andrea Fox. The range at Goodrich Castle includes a selection of helmets from the last 2000 years – from the elaborately plumed Roman centurion's helmet, priced at £150, to the pig-faced bassinette helmet at £110. Goodrich Castle's decorative replica swords are very popular with over-seas visitors, who are keen to get their hands on an 'Excalibur' or 'Highlander'-style sword to display on their walls at home, and the chain mail coif is also popular – although few people realise quite how heavy metal mail headwear can be! "The coif on its own weighs a few kilograms, so you imagine how much weight a soldier wearing a full mail vest would have to carry!" adds Andrea. Amongst the other popular replica goods is a pair of medieval handcuffs, and even a ball and chain! "The ball and chain can be a fantastic topic for dinner party conversation, with many people actually buying them as tongue-in-cheek wedding presents – they are actually hollow, but can be filled with sand to give them more weight when purchasers get them home!" she says.
