A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after pleading guilty to twice robbing the same petrol station three years ago.

Brandon Davies, 22, targeted the garage on Caldicot Road between the town and Rogiet four weeks apart in September and October 2019.

The second incident on October 7 saw armed police and a helipcopter swoop on the area in the early hours of the morning in the hunt for the culprit.

Police put out a description of a white suspect, of slim build, around 5ft 10in tall, and wearing a black jacket and white gloves and a 19-year-old man was later arrested.

But no one has been dealt with until now, with justice finally catching up with Davies, of St Mary’s Crescent, Rogiet, when he was jailed at Cardiff Crown Court last month.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and was jailed for four years and six months in prison.

DC Kate Lewis, officer in the case, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim, and we hope the verdict provides some closure for them.

“Davies’ prison sentence should serve as a reminder that we will relentlessly pursue those who display this type of behaviour and put them before the court.”

The second incident happened at around 1.40am, and members of the public reported a heavy police presence in the area that morning, with the police helicopter flying over Caldicot and Rogiet in the early hours.

One woman posted at the time: “Armed police in Rogiet this morning.”

Another added: “Rogiet garage closed by police and loads of police cars and vans there as I just came by.”

One said: “I lost track of how many times the helicopter flew over… five or six times from around 3am.”

Another posted: “There were loads of police at Rogiet garage at 6am this morning so I am guessing there was a burglary.”
