The enthusiasm of the carnival entries was not dampened by the worst weather for six years as a parade of superheroes and Spanish dancers made their way through the town.

From walkers to wagons, entries were as diverse as the groups that braved the elements to bring a splash of colour to a rain soaked Monnow Street.

Leading the way were crews from Monmouth’s fire station, who next year have persuaded chairman of the festival committee, Melanie Ralph, to be their mascot!

The Samba Galêz band from Cardiff gave the atmosphere a Brazillian carnival atmosphere as they headed the walking entries which included Egyptians, mobsters and superheroes!

This year’s Spirit of Monmouth, chosen by the carnival committee was Lisa Bailey, pictured below who chose yellow flowers, supplied by Flowers from Emma and was driven down Monnow Street alongside her attendant, Maxine Finn, by Rob Campbell.

Entries were judged by

Monmouth’s MP David Davies.
