MONMOUTHSHIRE Assembly Member Nick Ramsay was “delighted” to read a report from the Family and Childcare Trust which named Monmouthshire as the most family-friendly place in Wales.

 The Trust analysed national and local data from a YouGov survey about whether or not people were happy with financial resources, work-life balance, families’ services, housing and childcare.

 Mr Ramsay said the findings added even more weight to his petition calling on the Welsh Government to abandon its plans to abolish the county and return to an old-style pan-Gwent authority.

He added: “This is good news for Monmouthshire as the county scored well above average for being family-friendly. The county achieved a top score of 403 with Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, Anglesey and Ceredigion taking up the other places in the top five.

 “Blaenau Gwent with the lowest score of 178 and Merthyr Tydfil with 242 were found to be the least family-friendly, the report concluding that as “deprived areas” this was reflected in their scores.

 “This is great news and provides another reason to save Monmouthshire from the Welsh Government’s unpopular and ill-though out abolition plans.
