PLANS are being made to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt, with a meeting this Friday (13th March) due to bring ideas together.

Andrew Tuggey, Gwent's High Sheriff-in-nomination for 2015, and Sue Miles, from the Nelson Museum, are inviting anyone who would like to contribute to the celebrations to attend the meeting.

Current events planned to mark the anniversary include a showing of Lawrence Olivier's classic Henry V at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday 19th September, and a special St Crispin's Day service at St Mary's Priory Church on Sunday 25th October. There will also be a flower festival at the church during the summer and a civic ceremony in the town planned for St Crispin's Day.

Further afield, Raglan Castle will be hosting an "Entente Cordiale" event on the weekend of 13th-14th June. This will see celebrations with a French flavour and a focus on the Welsh involvement at the

battle.

Welsh dragons, knights in combat, a French cafe quarter and a children's archery tournament will all be at Raglan.

Monmouth has strong links to the battle with Henry V born in the town. The famous king went on to lead a small army into battle against a French force which vastly outnumbered the English on St Crispin's Day 1415.

Henry V was also helped by a large number of Welsh archers, wielding the famous English Longbow, and the storm of arrows played a significant part in the victory, bunching the French army together.

It is hoped that a large number of the community will get inspired and involved in the organising and running of Agincourt 600 events.

The meeting starts at 6pm at will be held at Monmouth Museum on Priory Street.
