A MAN in Monmouthshire has been exploring Monmouthshire through the ages and digitally recreating the local landscape.
Peter Bere, a local artist and keen historian, has created designs based upon research and excavations by Monmouth Archaeologist Stephen Clarke.
All reconstruction and illustrations were designed by Peter, exploring the local area from the ice age, throughout the neolithic period, right up to modern times.
His examinations provide a fascinating insight into what life might have looked like in Monmouth and the surrounding areas.
This week, he has shared with The Monmouthshire Beacon Monmouth’s great Ice Age Glacial Lake, showing the retreating glacier at the top of the image and the formation of the Red Brook Valley at the bottom left with an aerial view of present day Monmouth superimposed.
Peter has plans to share more with the community, and explained all original printed images are available from Rhodri Clarke at the Monmouth printers at The Town Wall, St, James Square, Monmouth, NP25 3DN.
Printing costs for an A3 colour image will be £10, which includes £3 for the charity ‘Friends of The Earth’ to help tackle Climate Change.
Anyone who hopes to purchase any of the pictures must quote the specific reference number, with this week’s being Ref: 0.
The charity has local action groups across the UK, with Monmouthshire’s branch residing in Abergavenny and Crickhowell. It is a local group which focuses on a national environmental campaign, under the larger national group; Friends of the Earth.
Its focus is action residents can take locally for a fairer, greener and sustainable future. It actively supports Friends of the Earth campaigns but concentrates on Monmouthshire with its 80 or so members. The group meets regularly.
For more information about the group, you can visit the website or find them on social media.
