Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and Johnny Flynn (Emma) feature in the fierce and funny new play, The Motive and The Cue which brings Richard Burton and John Gielgud’s infamous Hamlet rehearsals to the big screen at The Blake Theatre on Wednesday 27th March.
Set in 1964, Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, is to play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under John Gielgud’s exacting direction. But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall) directs Jack Thorne’s new play with Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey) starring as Hollywood starlet Elizabeth Taylor in the supporting cast.
The production was filmed live from the National Theatre during a sold-out run in London.
