THE Hunchback of Notre Dame will be ringing out from Abergavenny’s Borough Theatre this week.
Performed by Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, it runs from Wednesday to Saturday (April 17-20), and includes songs such as God Help The Outcasts, Out There, Hellfire and of course The Bells of Notre Dame.
Based on the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo with songs from the 1996 Disney movie, it follows Quasimodo and his yearning to explore the outside world and be accepted, against the wishes of cruel foster father Claude Frollo, who wants to exterminate Paris’ Roma population.
Quasimodo meets Gypsy Esmeralda, but when she catches Frollo’s attention, he must keep her out of his clutches.
Under director Tom Mogford and musical director Sarah Fowler, the show features Luke Williams as Quasimodo, Monmouth’s Patrick Callaghan as Frollo, Falesha Lewis as Esmerelda, Alex Brown as Phoebus, Merren Edwards as Clopin, and a talented ensemble cast and choir.
“It’s been brilliant taking on such a challenging show that hasn’t been done locally before,” explained Tom.
“It is a joy to see our talented cast taking on multiple characters and bringing them to life, along with our fantastic set of principals.
“The story is more relevant to today than ever, and we can’t wait to wow audiences.”
Tickets are £15 at the box office or through the Borough Theatre website boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk/shows/the-hunchback-of-notre-dame/
