IT'S green for go for Monmouth Off Centre Theatre's next production at the town's Savoy Theatre this week.
They're performing David Tristram's hit 'tragic comedy' Going Green from Thursday to Saturday, June 20 to 22, taking a farcical look at many subjects including sex, alcohol, crime and even theatre itself.
With a political setting, OCT's decision to choose Going Green was taken at the end of 2023, without any thought that it would be staged during an election in the 'real world'.
At a time when the people have lost faith in the whole political establishment, the whole country is crying out for a new direction, a fresh start.
Step forward John Brown – future leader of the Green Party. A man with charisma. A man with vision. But, also, a man with a problem.
At his party’s conference, his outstanding rousing speech calls for supporters to “Go green… or die”.
Little could he know just how profound those words would be.
The cast includes Corinne Haines as Laura, Stephen James as Sir Clive, Karen Hawley as Madeleine, Scott Hazledine as John Brown, Caroline Pearce as Christine and Jim Newcomb as Brian.
Off Centre has performed several Tristram comedies previously, the others being What's for Pudding (2008), Last Tango in Grimley (2012), The Opposite Sex (2020) and the one-act double header Peas (2022).
Peas was performed again by OCT last month in Penallt, Usk and Brockweir as part of a trilogy, also featuring the writer's Carrot and Women Only in aid of the Save Our Pubs campaign.
Tickets priced £15 are available from The Savoy Theatre box office, monmouth-savoy.co.uk, or via offcentretheatre.org.uk and the show starts at 7.30pm.
