YOUNG cricket fan Jay Roberts was delighted when his birthday cake came complete with bat, wickets, ball and an icing model of his favourite player Jonny Bairstow.

But he was totally bowled over when he then received a video message from the England star wishing him all the best for his recent eighth birthday.

Jonny says: "Hi Jay, it's Jonny Bairstow, I have seen your cake and thanks very much, it's something that really made me very proud to be honest.

"I hope you had an amazing eighth birthday and I know you play for Monmouth, so keep going, keep whacking it miles, keep bowling fast, keep doing everything that you love, and hopefully at some point I'll meet you, so have a good time, and happy birthday!"

Mum Vicky Roberts said: "Jay's cricket idol is Jonny Bairstow and he absolutely loves his cricket, so when a friend managed to get the message for him he was absolutely over the moon."
