Deputy head Theresa Ryan-Balfe said: “We spoke to the children about being an eco friendly school and the impact releasing balloons might have so the children came up with the idea of bubbles.

“The also made birthday cards for the school and donated £1 to wear party clothes and cooked cakes to sell to the parents.”

In total £270 was raised by the pupils through their donations and cakes which will be donated to St Davids Hospice in honour of Michelle Burgess a former member of staff who died of cancer.

Mrs Ryan-Balfe noted how quickly the school had grown, she said: “We are referred to the new school in Monmouth, but we are now 10 years old.

“We have got lots of families who have passed through already and lots of families and a few staff who have been here at the start. It is great to see those generations come through.”
