A former financial adviser from Monmouth is planning to walk ‘The Source of Life’ along with his daughter in order to raise funds for two charities.
Drewe Lacey, who is also District Governor for Rotary who has a lifetime experience of the River Wye and is a GIST cancer patient, is championing a project called “Source of Life”, a Rotary project raising funds to fight pollution in the River Wye and GIST Cancer.
Rotary District 1100 stretches from Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the North, via parts of Wiltshire in the East, Gloucestershire either side of the Severn, Chepstow and Monmouth in Wales, and down through Bristol into part of North Somerset.
It also includes the e-rotary Club of the West of England and, in total the District comprises 63 clubs.
Of the funds raised, 50 percent will support environmental charities in the Wye Valley while 50 per cent will support GIST Cancer UK.
Rotary Clubs are reinforcing the call for volunteers for citizen science work in the Wye Valley and provide financial support for the work being done with groups such as The Friends of the River Wye and The Wye Usk Foundation.
Drew and his daughter will endeavour to carry out a sponsored walk the entire 136 miles across a 10-day period, beginning on 11 September on Plynlimon and ending with a celebration in Chepstow at the mouth of the Wye on 21 September in order to raise funds for the charities.
The Chepstow celebration will take place from 9am until 10am on Saturday 21 September in the Riverside Park with music from the bandstand, games, activities and refreshments too.
So Rotary urges you to put the date in your diaries and make sure that you are there to congratulate this plucky man and give a donation for all his efforts in supporting causes very close to their hearts.
The Source of Life project is a partnership between Rotary and groups such as The Friends of the River Wye and The Wye Usk Foundation. The project is also calling for volunteers to participate in citizen science work in the Wye Valley.
