St David’s Hospice Care would like to say a very big thank you to the Club Captain and Ladies Captain of Monmouthshire Golf Club (pictured) for such fantastic fundraising in support of the hospice as their selected charity for 23/24. Over £3,392 was raised by the golf club through great fundraising throughout the year. The hospice is extremely grateful for such support that will make a huge difference.
Each year residents of Usk open their gardens for a weekend in June to raise funds for local charities, with this year raising over a total of £15,000 from this hugely popular weekend. St David’s Hospice is very grateful to have attended the presentation ceremony this month and receive an incredible donation of £1,250 from David Williams, chair, and Janet Munday secretary. It will help the charity continue providing vital care in the community.
Another supporter, Dan, recently completed an immense challenge, solo cycling approximately 700 miles or 1,125 km fully self-supported with no assistance, managing his own cycling plan, food and sleep arrangements. Starting at Atlantic Technological University Sligo in the North West of Ireland through to Rosslare in the South East, catching a ferry to Pembroke Dock in West Wales and took two days to cycle the Celtic trail to Chepstow. Dan then cycled the Lôn Las Cymru route from Chepstow to Holyhead, allowing the recommended four days but actually completing it in 2 gruelling long hilly days. From there Dan caught a ferry back to Dublin & arrived back to Sligo. Incredibly Dan managed to complete the full loop a lot quicker than planned, with the longest day being 220km and the shortest day being 75km, managing 370km in two long 16hr days in the saddle. An amazing total of over £1,800 has been raised from this outstanding challenge.
When you become a friend of the charity, you are supporting the hospice with a minimum payment of £5, allowing them to lend a helping hand to someone in need in our community. In return, you'll get a free enamel pin badge and a complementary hot drink at the hospice cafe.
