Two senior councillors have demanded a meeting with the bosses of the two Raglan service stations after repeated attempts to get the company EuroGarages to tackle litter.
Councillor Richard John (Mitchel Troy) and Councillor Penny Jones (Raglan) are concerned about the levels of litter not just within the EuroGarages sites but also in the verges and hedgerows of nearby roads. Cllr Richard John said: "The last time I met with EuroGarages bosses they promised that staff would be doing weekly litterpicks along the boundary of the site, including on the main road between Raglan and Dingestow. ’’This clearly isn’t happening and I want to know why not."When I recently contacted the company to complain about the level of fast food rubbish strewn all over the site, a supervisor tried to fob me off saying they’re doing daily litterpicks where possible - anyone who regularly drives past or through the sites will know this is simply not the case. "I recognise the litter is being dumped by a minority of mindless customers of the service stations, but EuroGarages also have a corporate responsibility. hope they will meet with us and agree to take steps to clean up their sites." Cllr Penny Jones said: "Litter gives a terrible impression of our villages and really drags the area down. Much of the litter on the Raglan to Mitchel Troy road can be traced directly back to companies based on the EuroGarages sites, including Greggs, Subway and Burger King.’’
