Grosmont was a flurry of activity on Saturday 13 April, as Labour's candidate for Monmouthshire, Catherine Fookes, was present to see the village celebrate a successful bid to save its town hall.
Grosmont village will be receiving nearly £300,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund over the next two years to deliver the Grosmont Community Hub, a project made in a partnership between Grosmont Community Council and Grosmont Futures, a community interest organisation founded by villagers in 2021.
The funding will be used to refurbish the listed building, built in 1832, and deliver new activities to make it easier for people to participate in village life. Catherine was given a tour and shown plans for the development. She also met villagers at a party featuring songs from the village choir, the Kitchen Singers, a village quiz, and a barbecue from the village pub, The Angel Inn.
Catherine said: “It was fantastic to be at the celebrations on Saturday. I know how hard the residents of Grosmont have worked to get the funding they need to restore the hall. The community have all pitched in, and it was an honour to celebrate with them and see the plans. A big thank you to the Angel for the wonderful barbecue. The best of Grosmont was definitely on show on Saturday!"
