A former Monmouth financial advisor has completed a charity walk with his daughter.

On Saturday 21 September, Drewe Lacey and his daughter Harriet completed their 150 mile walk along the River Wye from its source to Chepstow. On their final day they were accompanied by family and friends setting off from the Abbey Mill at Tintern walking the Wye Valley Greenway and on to the Drill Hall in Chepstow. In Chepstow they were greeted by Rotary Clubs from the Wye Valley and surrounding areas, RI Director Eve Conway and GIST Cancer UK Chair Nic Puntis.

Friends of the River Wye (FotRW), also greeted him into Chepstow and also set up a display at the Drill Hall explaining the background of what they do and why.

FotRW are immensely grateful to Drewe for his fundraising efforts here, and accordingly welcomed him in both at Monmouth and at Chepstow, as well as sending him out into the rain from Tintern on the last morning of his walk!

On Thursday Drewe, who was diagnosed with GIST 18 months ago and is still under chemotherapy Harriet and supporters were welcomed by the Mayor of Monmouth, David Evans and Rotary Monmouth on their arrival near the rowing club having walked from Lower Lydbrook that morning. The Mayor thanked Drewe, the current District 1100 Governor for Rotary International, for his efforts on publicising the pollution on the Wye, a vital part of Monmouth and drawing visitors from all over the country and elsewhere.

Drewe has exceeded his initial target of £8,000 but is now hoping to exceed £10,000. Donations in support of The Friends of the River Wye and Gist Cancer UK can be made through the website www.sourceoflife.co.uk."
