A MONMOUTH woman has doubled her fundraising target after walking 1,000 miles raising funds for a Monmouth community hall.
St Thomas’ church warden Jane Stone raised £2,000 for Ty Price, St Thomas’ Community Hall, by walking the incredible distance in 42 weeks.
Her walks took along the South Downs Way, the Welsh Coastal Path, parts of the Wye Valley and in and around Monmouth.
Mrs Stone said: “It has been very good, it wasn’t too difficult, if you do three miles a day you can do 1,000 miles in a year. It has certainly kept me fit.”
What has surprised her is the generosity of the people of Monmouth who have helped her smash her original target of £1,000. She said: “It has been quite amazing. For a couple of days I was just walking though Waitrose and people have just handed over money. People have been unbelievably generous.”
Although Ty Price was opened in August after a decade of funding and redevelopment Mrs Stone’s donation will not go amiss.
Mrs Stone said: “It will go towards equipment for the hall, obviously grants and things covered the building but we needed to raise money for chairs and tables and things like that.”
