CHEPSTOW library saw almost 700 people pass through its doors during a successful relaunch on Saturday (21st January).

After being closed for renovation, staff welcomed members of the public back into the building to explore the new layout.

The library now proudly boasts, among other things, state-of-the-art self service checkouts and more computers.

A stylish teenager area is now in place and facilities for town and family history research have been increased.

The childrens section has been modernised, as well as a relaxation area for parents with tea and coffee available.

Around a quarter of all books and stock in the library has been updated.

Despite all the new additions, things have not stopped yet.

"The open day is really just the starting point for the library. We want to make more of the lovely premises," said Sally Bradford, Community Library Manager.

Before Christmas, a Library Gardening Group was set up to improve the building's outdoor area. So far there have been railings built in order to keep the area separate from the nearby pathways, and a new ramp has been installed.

There are plans to improve the area further which include new seating and a possible children's area.

The garden will be launched on 23rd April on World Book Night.
