A YEAR of fundraising has culminated with the ladies of the Monmouth Golf Club donating £678 to the Wales Air Ambulance.
Each year a charity is chosen for which the club raises money, and last week the ladies handed over the money raised in 2016 to Liesel Townley from the charity.
Jennifer Neale, lady captain of Monmouth Golf Club said they had chosen the Wales Air Ambulance because of the voluntary work it does.
She said: “We chose Wales Air Ambulance because it is a totally voluntary organisation and a very valuable service. We have already had an air ambulance landing on the 10th tee to remove an ailing senior.”
Along with donations, there were a number of events held throughout the year to raise money for the charity.
Jennifer Neale said: “We had captains day which was a big event. We had one of the ladies sitting in a buggy selling Pimms and had competitions such as ‘nearest to the tee’ and buckets going around for collection.
“We also had a charity bridge drive which 48 people attended and raised £360.”
Liesel Townley from Wales Air Ambulance said donations such as these were key to the service.
She said: “We rely totally on donations and it is wonderful for the community and clubs like these to come together for us because without them we wouldn’t exist.”
