PLANS have been put forward to demolish a century old Wye Valley house and replace it with 11 new houses.

Butler Wall Homes of Pontypool is seeking full planning permission to knock down Bridruthen, which sits in two acres off Bannuttree Lane in Bridstow, near Ross.

Following discussion with county housing officers, the scheme would be made up of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom two-storey homes and three three-bedroom bungalows, for market sale.

Finished in brick and render with clay roof tiles, each would have roof-mounted solar panels.

Three would have direct access onto Bannuttree Lane, while the others would share a new spine road, of permeable tarmac and with a turning head.

Lying within the Wye Valley National Landscape, the spot is close to the village primary school, bus stop, village hall and church, the firm’s application points out.

It adds that the site was earmarked for eight houses, in addition to the existing one, in the village’s latest neighbourhood development plan – though local voters rejected this in 2022.

Marketed in late 2021 as a ‘development opportunity’ priced at £800,000, Bridruthen was described as ‘an attractive six-bed 1920s detached house in need of extensive refurbishment or demolition’.
