Caldicot School pupils celebrated the best set of GCSE results in the school's history. The percentage of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades rose to 91 per cent with 63 per cent of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades including English and mathematics, sustaining a three year growth. There were some outstanding individual results with seven pupils gaining 10 straight A*/A grades in addition to BTEC qualifications. Over 270 A* or A grades were awarded overall in addition to many distinctions in BTEC qualifications. Pupil Ashleigh Jim achieved five As, two Bs and one A*. "I found GCSEs quite challenging," she said, "I'm looking forward to coming back for sixth form. I'd like to study biology and chemistry." Laura Bailey is staying at Caldicot School to study for her A-levels after celebrating three A*s, two As and three Bs. "I'm so pleased with my results," she said, "I'd like to study history, Welsh, religious studies and chemistry." Hannah Young achieved superb results. With three A*s, seven As and a merit in extended mathematics, she hopes to study medicine after sixth form. Pupil Bethan Jones celebrated after achieving her maths GCSE, after re-sitting and passing the second time around. Proud mum Eileen Jones said: "I'm so proud of my daughter. She studied and dedicated herself to getting her results. I knew she could do it." Deputy headteacher Mark Sexton said: "We are absolutely delighted with such excellent results. "This superb set of results is the culmination of a determined effort by pupils and staff to ensure that pupils gain the best results possible to launch them into the next stage of their learning." Chair of governors Peter Nurcombe said: "These are fantastic results, our best ever. "The pupils have worked very hard and are getting their just desserts. "I congratulate them all. The results are a great accolade for the staff and leadership of the school."
