The Monmouth Chamber of Commerce has been running a "Shop Monmouth" competition since April this year, encouraging shoppers to support local businesses by making purchases in the town. Shoppers were invited to submit receipts for purchases of £10 or more, with each submission entering them into a draw to win £100 in Monmouth shopping vouchers. The competition not only promotes local shopping but also helps strengthen the ties between the community and its independent businesses.
The Chamber was delighted to invite Catherine Fookes MP to draw the winning tickets, pictured alongside Chamber President Sherren McCabe-Finlayson. The draw took place at took place at Salt and Pepper, and all vouchers were purchased from independent businesses in the town that are Chamber members. This initiative supports the creation of a circular economy and demonstrates the Chamber's ongoing commitment to its members.
The three winners who each received £100 in Monmouth shopping vouchers were: Sion Priddy, Sharon McCullum, and Sarah Priday, along with her niece Phillipa, who emailed the Chamber to express their enjoyment during a recent visit to the town.
Sherren said, "This is one of the many highlights of being Chamber President. I’ve received some lovely emails from people who entered the competition, sharing how much they enjoyed visiting Monmouth and praising businesses that have gone above and beyond in their customer service – a true reflection of the town’s excellent retail offering. We received over 3,500 entries into the draw, and I would like to personally thank everyone who took part, as well as those who have continued to support our town’s businesses during the disruptions we’ve experienced this year. The Chamber and businesses are grateful to you all."
Catherine Fookes MP said “I was delighted to draw the winners of this innovative competition from the Chamber of Commerce. Sherren and the Chamber do so much to promote our businesses and we have so many fantastic independent businesses and traders in town.”
Be on the lookout for publicity material in early 2025 as the Chamber is planning on running another competition in the new year with a fantastic prize.
