Sir,
Having moved away from Monmouth last year, imagine my surprise on a recent return when I was invited for a picnic down by the river
As my son and I made our way down past the allotments we could barely believe our eyes when we came across the vision that is the Community Orchard. What a transformation!
When we left Monmouth this was an area that was certainly not open or inviting and I would not have wanted to spend an afternoon down by the river if this was the access point.
The ground used to be covered with nettles, docks, tall grass, weeds and of course the perennial rubbish.
Now, the area has been cleared of all this and in its place lies a beautiful space with young fruit trees, a place to be proud of and a calm, tranquil haven to enjoy the river from one of the best spots in Monmouth.
Thank you Transition Monmouth for making this happen and to all the volunteers involved for their hard work, dedication and energy.
What a fantastic result and how better to enhance the Village Green to make it accessible and enjoyable for all.
