On Friday 15th September, Monnow Swimming Club held a Swimathon.
The club set themselves a target of swimming the length of the River Monnow, which is 42 miles and the equivalent of 2,704 lengths of the Monmouth Girl’s School Pool. Fifty five of their amazing swimmers turned up on the night and smashed their target and ended up swimming an impressive 75 miles, which is an equivalent of 4818 lengths, an amazing achievement!
Monnow Swimming Club started in 1975 and has been involved in coaching swimmers that have gone on to compete in Commonwealth games, but to keep up their high standard of coaching they need to train up more coaches for the swimmers, so the aim of the Swimathon was to raise much needed funds to train up three new coaches.
