A CHEPSTOW man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 79-year-old woman by careless driving.
Darren Glyn Williams, of Valentine Lane, Bulwark, appeared in Newport Crown Court on Monday (22nd February) and pleaded guilty to the charge of causing the death of Wyesham pensioner Beryl Ellis by careless driving. He also pleaded not guilty to a count of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
On 7th September 2014, Williams caused the death of 79-year-old Beryl Ellis on the A466 north of Tintern.
Mrs Ellis from Wyesham, Monmouth, was travelling in the back of a Ford Fiesta and died at the scene. Three other occupants of the vehicle suffered leg and neck injuries and were taken to hospital.
Williams, driving an Opel Manta, also suffered life-threatening injuries while a female passenger in the vehicle suffered from leg injuries.
Williams was granted unconditional bail and was disqualified from driving pending his sentence. The case was adjourned for sentencing on 15th March.
