A MONMOUTH event has celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Started by former occupational therapist Georgie Meadows in 2006, the Tea Dance aims to run a weekly event promoting inclusion for those with mental health problems or physical difficulties.
At the event’s 10th anniversary event last Thursday (23rd June), old and new faces joined the team for a celebration at Bridges Community Centre in Monmouth.
After 10 years of success Georgie is handing over the organising of the event to Bridges Community Centre with help from Ceri Price from the occupational therapy team at Monnow Vale and the all the present volunteers. In a speech to all present, Georgie thanked everybody present for being part of the event.
“I want to thank everyone who has been involved with this from the start,” she said. “There are so many of you here who are so important, and I want to thank you for everything.”
Georgie was presented with a framed photo of the dancers, flowers and a cake.
Mark Walton, Director of Bridges Community Centre added: “Thank you everyone for coming, its wonderful to see old friends and new friends here today.
“Georgie and her team have done a phenomenal job, the Tea Dance is one of the jewels in Bridges’ crown. Thank you everybody for such a fantastic event.”
In 2012 a film ‘Thursday Afternoons’ was made about the tea dance which was shown at the Wellcome Collection in London. The film can be seen online at www.cromwellfilms.com
